I've always loved the story from the New Testament of the wise men who travel from the East and finding Mary and the child they rejoice with 'great joy', falling down to worship the true king. They gave the precious gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. I've always been touched by the great humility of wealthy and wise men who recognized the true king and his mother, Mary, a descendant from the royal family of David. I wanted to capture the nobility and beauty of Mary and the precious gift of life that the baby represents. I hope this painting makes the story come to life for you. --Susan
